Candidate for Re-Election November 2, 2010
I am the product of working class parents who worked hard so I could have a better life. I decided that long ago I would commit myself to my community, a community that gave me the opportunity to take advantage of all that our towns have to offer: safe neighborhood and good schools.

Doug Foyle, Board of Education

We’re facing several critical issues in Glastonbury education. First, we must preserve small class sizes, the building block of any education program, even in trying economic times. Second, we must have educational leaders who are able to preserve educational excellence while remaining fiscally responsible. Finally, I fear that radical cuts to the education budget will undermine Glastonbury’s competitive advantage in central Connecticut and erode our property values,

Dan Schnaidt, Board of Education

In Glastonbury we work hard to attract and are fortunate to have many superb teachers. I believe we can attract even more high-caliber people to teaching and to Glastonbury if teachers have more opportunities to be compensated for outstanding performance. I am interested in exploring with the teachers and unions the potential of incentives to better reward exemplary teaching. I also encourage the innovative use of technology for teaching and learning, which Glastonbury schools has well begun.

Lisa Furbush, Board of Education

I ran for the Board of Education to help find a balance which will ensure our children’s future while addressing budget issues that are the reality of every school district.

Michele Jacklin, Town Council

Most of my adult life has been spent as a journalist, primarily with The Hartford Courant, where I was a town news reporter, legislative reporter, chief political reporter, editorial writer and political columnist. My chief concern in wanting to serve on the Town Council is to maintain Glastonbury’s excellent quality of life, while ensuring the town’s affordability so that people of all socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds can make their homes here.

Tim Coon, Town Council Member

“My goal is to listen to the community and use my experience in all areas of government to enhance the efficiency of all our Town Departments. We need to continually improve the excellent quality of life we have here in Glastonbury.”
